QuestionI've recently encountered more break-outs on my face than ever. Going off birth control could have contributed to the condition, but I was wondering if diet has anything to do with it. Some professionals say "no, diet has no affect on acne at all, and some say certain foods increase the sebum oil production in your body. Is there a special diet i should be on to reduce the amount of break-outs?
AnswerHello Mandeep!
Thank you for your nutrition question. People with skin that is susceptible to acne can benefit from eating a wide range of fresh fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds. These foods have been found to be beneficial in helping reduce acne.
Always try and buy the freshest food you can, and choose organic where possible. Use the following foods to make delicious salads, smoothies, juices in their raw form. Cooking often destroys many of the required nutrients and enzymes essential for digestion and absorption. Where you do cook food, cook it for the minimum time possible and choose quick stir fries and light steaming over boiling, baking or grilling.
Choose a wide variety of these foods and get a good balance of essential nutrients.
* Fruit- apples, blueberries, grapes, lemons, kiwi,
* Vegetables- broccoli, carrots, celery, tomatoe, garlic
* Nuts- walnuts, almonds, macadamias
* Seeds & Beans- chick peas, oatmeal, flaxsees
* Herbs- basil, parsley, mint
I also recommend a product called Juice Plus+ which contains the nutrients from 17 different fresh fruits and vegetables. It is available at www.juiceblend.com
It can be taken in capsules or chewables. Many of my patients who are trying to improve their skin condition see excellent results with Juice Plus.
