QuestionHi there
i am an averaged sized 16 year old male who is looking to improve my health by eating the right foods.
My family don't understand the concept of healthy eating and therefore i diet consists of infrequent late meals which mostly contain bread etc!!
I have taken it upon myself to sort my diet out because i am not sleeping well and my sports has suffered as i feel sluggish and have no energy due to my lifestyle.
I hope this isn't asking to much, but would it be possible for you to inform me how i can get a healthy plan underway. For example meal times, frequency and types of foods.
Your help would be much appreciated!!
Many thanks
Joe
AnswerHello Joe!
Thank you for your nutrition question. I am glad that you are taking it upon yourself to eat healthy. Lead the way and others will follow!
First, I would recommend checking out www.mypyramid.gov where you can create a healthy eating plan simply by entering your age, gender, and activity level. It will give you complete serving amounts from the food groups as well as a menu.
Secondly, I recommend that you check out my book "Ask the Nutritionists:Answers to YOur Nutrition Questions." It is filled with menus, recipes and healthy eating tips for the young athlete. It will get you pointed in the right direction to what foods are the best for you. You can purchase it at your local bookstore for $12.95. Let me know if you have more questions!
