QuestionHello,
I was hoping you could help me. I am trying to revamp the way my family eats and figuring out how to make healthier choices- for my kids especially. Both my children LOVE yogurt, its practically a MAINSTAY in their diet. Thus far I have been giving them Regular Yoplait (not the lowfat, I don't trust artificial sweeteners). But I have been researching the organic varieties particularly the Brown Cow and Stonyfield Farms brands. Most tout that they use a "healthier" version of sugar called evaporated cane juice or pure milled sugar. And I have always been told that you should stay away from foods that contain high fructose corn syrup. Anyway here FINALLY is my question. If Yoplait contains 27 grams of sugar and has HFCS as an ingredient but the Brown Cow and Stonyfield farm sugar content is HIGHER (around 35 for flavored yogurts) but DOESN'T have HFCS...which is better for you?? The sugar content seems pretty high in the other 2 brands... Thank you for your time.

AnswerHi Brianna,
Greetings. I appreciate your question and I apologize for taking so long to get back to you. I was at a seminar and I forgot to put this notice on the allexperts website.
I completely agree that yogurt can be one of the healthiest foods we can eat. The absolute 2 best yogurts for me are 1) FAGE Yogurt from Greece and 2) Pavel's Russian Yogurt. Both have high levels of the good probiotic bacteria we get from yogurt.
Both should be available in your health food store. I do not eat any yogurt with any sweeteners added. Instead, I add SweetPerfection (www.lowcarbspecialties.com), which is an all natural high-fiber sweeetener that I created after I used it to help me lose about 100 lbs. of body weight.
SweetPerfection was recently named in Men's Health magazine as the healthiest sweetener available. I also use pure vanilla as an additive to my yogurt.
FAGE also makes sweetened types of yogurt, and if I was going to buy sweetened yogurt, these would be my first choice.
Best,
Mary Jo
