Questionhi
my daughter is 3 and a half and last week stayed with her nan my mum and was eating a bit of chicken and choked on it.she said she needed a drink and understandably was very upset.since then she will not it anything that she needs to chew.all the foods she loved i now ask if she wants but her reply is she don't like it not even sweets or crisps which she loved.the only thing she will eat now is yogurt and ice cream.i know she is really frightened but i just don't know how to tackle this issue.she has always loved food and now wont touch it.she has been getting quite grumpy and tearful.im so worried and so upset if you can offer any advice i would be truly grateful
AnswerDear Kelly, I would first make sure physically she is OK with a trip to the doctor. She might have a sore throat, or some other physical reason for not chewing. Second, I would let her eat what she wants off the plate, and try not to force her to eat the chewy foods right now. Don't cater to her though. Just cook the foods like you always did and ignore the fact she is not eating well, she is actually getting into the picky eating age, just another phase. Kids her age will not starve themselves, they will usually eat just enough to get by, so your daughter should hopefully do the same. The important thing is the food she does eat is healthy and is not just sweets and milk products. You should provide very small portions from all the food groups at every meal. She should pick and eat at least some of those foods, especially if the rest of the family is sitting down for the same meal. Hope that helps, Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
