QuestionI am the girl who usually goes grocery shopping and comes out with stuff like the following:
doritoes
beefaroni
hot dogs
cereal & milk
frozen dinners
diet soda
steak
canned soup
yeah... NOT healthy... I know......
Tonight I was inspired. I've gone through some healthy periods in my life and even done the weight watchers thing twice. I am a decent cook, but i lack interest and motivation, not skill..... I ADORE cooking shows above all....
So... here's what came home with me.... what would *YOU* do? Plz consider my past.....
Cannellini, Red, & Black Beans
FF Low Sod. Chk broth
LF Peanut Butter
Lite Itl. Dressing
Broccoli
Vidalia Onions
Cucumbers
Garlic
Celery
Baby Carrots
Plums
EV Olive Oil
Skless BNless Chk Breast
Also... tips on storing are welcome!
AnswerHi Amanda,
Greetings and thank you for your question.
In looking over the items you brought back from the grocery store, I see that you included more vegetables in the 2nd list (progress to me) but also more Fat Free/Low Fat Items, and also skinless chicken... (not progress to me).
As may have been apparent from my weight loss history, I did it all the low carb way. I actually gained weight when I ate fat/reduced fat products, so I cannot speak to losing weight with this method (can anybody?)
From your shopping lists, I cannot determine the "strategy" in your selections. You do not mention that you wish to lose weight, but if you do, the best advice I can offer is to check out all the Atkins books from the library and make your list from there.
If you do not wish to lose weight, but to eat healthier, my thoughts on that are:
a) choose foods you love to eat.
b) avoid foods with stuff on the label that is not a natural ingredient.
If you really want to eat the foods that are healthiest for you, consider going to some sessions with a naturopathic practitioner who can muscle test you for the foods that are most digestible/helpful for your body.
Best,
Mary Jo
