QuestionHello Dr. Ryan:
My name is Ileana, I have a question regarding metabolic rate and body composition.
I looked up the BMR and RMR formula, and noticed that the equations only involve variables such as age, weight, height and sex. Since I heard that increasing the muscle weight could also speed up the metabolic rate (I know there is activity factor which I can apply but I think it's abit rough..), I was wondering if you could advice me if there is a formula that could help me calculate metabolic rate by incorporating not only variables such as age, height, sex and weight but also muscle weight or fat weight, so that I can monitor and find out my metabolic rate more accurately.
Thank you very much for your help!
Kind Regards,
Ileana
AnswerIn my limited research on your question, I was unable to find a specific formula to incorporate any variables pertaining to percentage of muscle or fat by bodyweight.
I would recommend asking an exercise physiologist about that aspect of monitoring a more pinpoint metabolic rate. They specialize in calculations of that type.
Thank you for your question, Ileana. I hope that my answer leads you to the information you seek.
