1. How many calories is too much  for a meal and will initiate the gastric steal effect?
2. "Try eating a little something every 2-3 hours" how many calories should that something be?

Answer
A heavy meal of 1000+ calories could set off gastric seal but so could 600+ calories in someone small.  It depends on the size of the person as well as their stomach size.  

In order to stay within the recommended 2000 calorie/day diet, the snacks or mini-meals should be 100-200 calories.  Things in that range include most fruits and vegetables, pieces of cheese, yogurt, trail mix, nuts, seeds, etc.
