Weight Loss/Muscle Tone

Question
HI! thank you for voluntering to help others! I am 33yrs old, 5'3", 125lbs & have had two children. I still have a BMI of 22-23. I have a very small bone structure & have at least 10lbs of 'loose' fat remaining. I want to lose the fat & tone my body. I also have loose skin from being overweight & having very large babies. In the last year I have lost 50lbs. I lift weights & have good muscle definition, but have a ways too go & no matter what I try just can't seem to get there. I feel like I can see the finish line but my feet won't move. Can you help me? I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I eat low fat & low calorie, I exercise, what am I missing?

Answer
Good news Sasha!   Unless you have a thyroid problem or some major disease process that is preventing you from losing weight, or on certain medications that may cause weight gain, then there is nothing standing in the way of your losing those last pounds!    Congrats for losing 50 lbs--amazing accomplishment!   Thank yourself for that, and the hard part is over!   The fact that you are already exercising and paying attention to your diet is good news, because I don't have to convince you to change your lifestyle.   So, the stage is already set for weight loss!   Now we just have to look at exactly what you are doing so that you can achieve the results you are looking for.   That last 10 lbs can be difficult to lose, as the closer you are to your target weight, the more your body resists shedding itself of that weight.   However, once you do, it is very easy to maintain it, provided that you are consistent with your exercise/diet.   Okay, so you lift weights and eat low fat/low calorie.   That's a good start, but you didn't say if you were doing cardiovascular exercise (stairmaster, walking, eliptical, etc).   This will bring you HUGE results.   If you already are doing it, then you need to increase the time and # of days.  As far as low fat diet, kudos to you, but look at the rest of your diet.   Are you eating low-sugar?  Low sodium?  Too many carbs in one sitting or total per day?  The wrong kind of carbs?   What is considered low calorie to you?   If you are too low, your metabolism will slow down, as you need to eat a certain # in order to sustain your exercising.    If you answer these questions, I can procede with helping you get to the next step.   I think the answer will lie in there somewhere, and help sort out the reason why you are not achieving your final goal.   I'll be waiting for your answer!
