QuestionWhatever I eat or drink gives me a lot of gas. I burp like crazy for two or three ours after meal. And it doesn't matter much how much food I eat, small sandwich gives me the same problems as very large portion of meat.
Sound is not a problem, I can burp quietly, but smell is big problem. It is often very embarassing when smell of half digested food is coming out of my mouth. The other problem is that I can't go to bed for at least four hours after eating because gasses can't escape from my stomac and I get heartburn.
I had this problems since I was 10, and I'm 22 now. What can I do about this? Changing diet is not going to help, are there any pills that would deflate my stomac?
Thanks in advance
AnswerMilos, You have what is called Gastroesophogeal Reflux Disease, or GERD for short. You really need to go to your family Dr., where they will do some tests on you to see if you have an infection inside your stomach with H. Pylori. Most likely you do, and they will prescribe you antibiotics, and give you other medication to help control the acid production inside your stomach (H2 Blockers like "Zantac", or Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPI's) like "Nexium").
This is not only uncomfortable and embarrassing, but can lead to a very serious condition called Barrett's Esophagus, which is a pre-cancerous, non-reversible damage of the esophagus (the tube that connects your throat to your stomach), and will lead to cancer (and then they will have to remove the whole esophagus and/or stomach). Also , you can have rupture or perforation of the esophagus from the constant erosion of your tissues from the gastric acids. PLease see your Dr. and tell her/him exactly what you wrote to me here. The sooner you get help, the faster you will get relief, and more importantly, prevent more serious condiitons like cancer, and perforation of the esophagus.
Good luck Milos!
