QuestionAfter a lifetime of binge drinking, recreational drugs, and poor eating habits,at 50 I decided to clean up my act.
Its been two months of daily exercise, counting calories, lots of fibre, fruit,no booze, and and three times a day a 'liver detox and rejuvenator' supplement with milk thistle and several other herbs, washed down with grapefruit juice.
I was starting to get frustrated as I was seeing no results after two months.
Then suddenly,,last week,I began to fell gurgling sensations, and have episodes of diarea. Also some nausea and headaches.
Its not the flu as I know what thats like.
Also, now the needle on the scale finally went down two pounds.
Does this sound like my body is finally flushing out the toxins of years of booze and drugs and I am losing weight like normal people now that diet and exercise?
AnswerHi Brent,
Glad to hear you're making an effort at healthier habits. The weightloss is more likely due to the diarrhea causing a good amount of water loss. Toxins are constantly flushed out of our body by our liver, so it's not that we need a detoxifation plan, just changing to healthier foods and exercise will be sufficient.
I would hold off on the supplements you're taking right now to see if the diarrhea will go away for you. If it does go away I would discontinue the detox supplements. If it doesn't help then that probably isn't the culprit.
Sounds like you're a bit frustrated though with lack of results. What does the rest of your nutrition look like? And what are you doing for exercise?
