QUESTION: Hey Dan,

I currently do modelling (im 15) and want to know of a way to detox without getting skinner (i weigh 45kg)Its just that i need to clear my face a little and wantedto know if you have a certain diet/detox for that

ANSWER: Hi Georgia,

First you should eliminate any sugary foods such as candies, soft drinks, excessive oils, hydrogenated oils, and baked goods. Also greatly reduce white flour products including white bread. You may be doing this already...

Sometimes skin outbreaks can indicate overacidification of the body which can come from eating acid forming foods. These foods includes the ones mentioned above, dairy, and excess protein. The body is naturally slightly alkaline and works to remain this way and may push acids to the skin surface causing outbreaks including eczema, psoriasis, and acne or simple blemishes.

Try to focus on alkalizing foods such as green leafy vegetables, summer squash, tomatoes, asparagus, green beans, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers, celery, avocados, lemons, and limes. Such vegetables and fruits should make up a large part of your diet (75%+). If you want, try juicing with green vegetables daily. Try juicing cucumbers, spinach, and watercress and add a carrot or beet for sweetness. Cook with some olive oil or coconut oil (coconut is anti-bacterial). Drink plenty of filtered water.

The rest of your diet can include some lean meats such as fish, nuts, seeds, and whole grains (brown rice, long cooking oats, kashi, buckwheat, wheat berries, bulgur wheat, wheat germ, rye, and pumpernickel). Use some yogurt and try dairy alternatives such as soy or almond milk.

Definitely try to clean up your diet first.

You can also try using an essential fatty acid supplement which includes fish oils as well as evening primrose oil. Flax seed may also be beneficial. Try a topical cream containing MSM which heals tissue. MSM can also be taken in supplement form. B-vitamins have been used to treat acne as well (use a B complex). Vitamin A (mixed carotenoids, beta-carotene), vitamin C, vitamin D3, vitamin E, and zinc are also important for healthy tissue. You might simply try a multi-vitamin supplement if you are not using one already. You can also find some skin care items on my web-site if you are interested.

I also wonder how tall you are at about 100 pounds? No need to respond unless you wish. Also, keep your parents involved in dietary changes, especially using supplements.

ANSWER: Georgia,

If my conversion of metric units is correct you would be considered fairly underweight. Your BMI (body mass index) is only 15.76; underweight is 18.6. 54kg would put you at 18.6ish. Just something seriously to think about!! Make sure you are eating at least 2000 calories a day. If you eat right and follow a good exercise (ask a physical trainer for help) program you could gain weight and still look great.
