QuestionHello,
I am about 12 days into a new diet and am eating very healthy foods: egg
whites, lots of vegetables, boiled chicken, apples with peanut butter, whole
grains, nuts, protein plus power bars, etc. I'm worried though that I might not
be eating enough calories (I consume around 1200/day) and would be
devastated if this could keep me from losing weight. I can see a physical
change in myself and can tell I've lost weight but I don't weigh myself so don't
know how much. What I would like to know is how low can my calorie intake
be before it affects my metabolism? I work out 3-4 times a week, cardio and
weight training am 5'7" and somewhere around 150 lbs. And if you think my
body might be going into "starvation mode" how can I reverse this affect and
not throw out my diet completely? If I slowly start eating more will my body
stop storing what I'm taking in? I feel like I'm trapped, if i dont eat enough i
start gaining weight which makes me want to eat even less which will make it
worse and if i start eating more i'll probably gain weight again which will
make me freak out! Oh, and I am a recovering bulimic which makes this so
much more frustrating. please give me some suggestions and let me know if
it is likely that my metabolism is going to turn against me and punish me for
eating less! thank you!
AnswerI get it. I've been right there where you are and I can offer you some suggestions, but if you're not "ready" to hear them, you won't like them.
First - ditch the diet. It's not going to work, they never do and in the long run you could end up gaining more (like 20% more than you lose; so if you lose 10 lbs, you will probably re gain 12 lbs)
Second - get rid of the scales. They lie. They will always lie. You are not measured by a number, so refuse to allow it.
Eat right - eat what you LIKE and make your life about something other than food and exercise.
Like I said, if you're really ready to hear this, check my site www.GetTheReal.info
If not, well, that's ok too. It took me a lifetime to get here.
