Why isn't white rice considered healthy by nutritionists?
In my part of the world, most people eat white rice daily along with cooked vegetables. Most of them have bulky stomachs. Is it because white rice causes water retention in the stomach? I have therefore switched from rice to "rotis" or "chapattis" which is made from wheat,as my diet.

White rice has the outer husk removed, which contains most of the fiber and nutrients. What you are left with is mainly refined carbohydrates, which digests very quickly and is much more likely to be stored as fat (if you eat excess of rice). When you eat rice that is whole grain rice, all the original parts are intact, which means you will be getting all the nutrients, and it will digest much more slowly, stabilizing your blood sugar levels, and less likely to be deposited as fat.
