Weight gain vs muscle gain

Question
Hi Tanya, thanks so much for taking the time out to answer these questions.
Right now im trying to gain some weight (recovering from an eating disorder),
and im eating about 1700-1800 calories a day, and ive been doing this for 3
weeks now and i have not gained any weight. im not sure how this is possible
being that i increased it from about 1200 calories. do u think ill eventually
put on weight, or should increase my calorie intake?

Thank you!

Answer
Julie,

It can be that you not only increased your calorie intake but also energy expenditure. For example, if you increased your fat intake, your skin temperature could also increase and radiating more energy to the environment increase your daily calorie need up to 300 Cal.

It's hard to figure it out without special calculators or even equipment. Also, you have to know what you want to gain -- fat or muscle. If it's muscle, you cant do without strength training and adequate protein intake.
