Questionmy 2 yr old son went from eating chicken, lamb chops, veal, etc. to eating only hot dogs and carbs. no cheese, no vegetables. It's been like this for 3 months. I am at my wits end. I place food in front of him and he pushes it aside.
AnswerDear Lea, The developmental stage your toddler is going through right now is characterized by independence and oppositional behavior. This behavior can be seen most often at mealtimes and will eventually pass. Your role as a parent and provider is to understand that this is a normal learning behavior. Your job as a food provider is to present healthy foods in small amounts and your child's job is to learn healthy eating. Do not give in to tantrums or bad behavior, and do not worry, your child will not starve. Offer small healthy meals and snacks throughout the day like small segments of fruit, small pieces of vegetables, small servings of milk, yogurt, cut up chicken, meat, whole grain bread, and small pieces of cheese. If he doesn't eat those foods do not offer unhealthy foods just to appease him, he's testing you and he is winning! Hope that helps, Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
