QuestionHi Susan. Firstly, thanks so much for your service to All Experts; its really great to be able to ask all kinds of questions on this site. :-)
I'm 24 and I am an exotic animal trainer. I travel quite a lot to do educational animal shows with some big critters across the country, and I'm gone maybe 5 months out of the year. When in my home town, I do a lot of shows here.
Back about a year ago, I used to drink 1 Red Bull before a show for an extra burst of energy. Then, some months later, I began consuming anywhere from 1 to 3 Red Bulls per day when working. Well the addiction progressed and now I've upgraded to Rockstar at about 3 or 4 cans per day...whether I'm working or not.
On the road its quite hard to eat a balanced diet, and we mostly eat fast food or beef jerky and lots of sugary drinks.
What alarms me about Rockstar is its insanely high levels of B vitamins...and while I'm consuming so much of it, I wonder if its hurting me at all. 1 can has 2 servings in it, and each serving has 100% or 200% of B2, B3, B5, B6, and B12 vitamins, 80 mgs of caffiene and a whopping 1000 mgs of taurine. Double all of that to equal just 1 whole can.
So at 4 cans daily, am I doing series damage to my body?
I began wondering about it today, when I was overcome with some pretty serious diarrhea after my morning coffee, which has lasted pretty much all day off and on. I should add that I have never been a water drinker and pretty much don't drink pure water unless it is a very hot day and I feel thirsty.
Thanks again, Susan!
AnswerHi Stephenie,
Now read your lines and pretend someone else wrote it. Serious self destruction?
You have nothing better to do with time and money than TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY!
Switch to real food. Put some dried fruit and raw nuts with the jerky. Start diluting those vile drinks with plain water. Taper off, a litte less a day. There is nothing better than plain water. May not sound right, but give your bod a chance and try putting plain water in front of you first thing in the morning. Quicker wake up to your poor dehydrated brain than coffee.
Get serious, you are doing damage, starting with your kidneys.
