QuestionI'm a 33 year old stay at home mom, I'm trying my best to watch what I eat to be healthy and lose weight. My problem is, I always feel hungry. Even after I eat I still feel hungry. I've increased my fiber intake, as my PCP suggested and that hasn't helped at all. I'm not sure what to do anymore. I eat small meals throughout the day to try and curb some hunger but it just doesn't work. I work out every day for about an hour doing cardio and weights. I recently had blood work done and my sugars are within normal ranges as is my cholesterol. I do have IBS but that is kept at bay with supplements and eating the right things. I do take supplements such as Omega's and Calcium and Vitamin C amongst others. I just don't know what to do anymore, I cannot get rid of this hunger feeling and it's making losing weight tough as nails. Thank you for your help.
AnswerHello T,
I'm almost positive that your problem is in your insulin sensitivity and metabolic resistance. If this is the case (and it's easy to check) you should change your way of eating. Lately, the idea of small frequent meals started looking less intuitive, and a lot of research data appeared showing that intermittent fasting, for instance a meal a day eating plan works wonder for hunger, cravings, etc. including the IBS thing.
However, I wouldn't recommend trying this WOE unprepared by weanling yourself of foods that cause hunger and cravings. My clients, after improving their health and making their appetite healthy, which invariably goes with increased energy level throughout the day, easily switch to the intermittent fasting.
