QuestionI've been eating fairly healthy lately - I found that the amount of refined sugar I had in my diet was actually making me feel bad, so I took it out. I fairly regularly eat three meals a day, and I used to have dessert after dinner. Now that I'm not doing that, I find myself hungry again later in the evening. I end up eating a couple of apples every night after dinner. Is it bad to be eating later at night, and/or to eat lots of apples (sugar content, etc.)? Thanks
AnswerHi Andrea,
Eating apples at night is certainly better than snacking on junk! It is best not to eat after 6-6:30ish but that may not always work all of the time. If you are hungry at night try eating a piece of chicken or other protein, try to avoid carbs in the evening.
Eating at night results in digestion occurring when you should be sound asleep. You will not rest as fully, and even more important, you may not get the benefits of HGH (human growth hormone) which is released by your body at night due to digestive work. HGH as you no doubt have heard is part of your youthful appearance and vitality. Using an HGH supplement is never the answer and I discourage it- eating right is the way to go.
You might try eating 5-6 smaller meals a day, if you are skipping dessert (wise choice- most of the time) add another serving or two of a healthy food at dinner.
Bottom line is that eating an apple after dinner, at night is not going to cause major problems, just don't make a habit of eating late!
