QuestionHi Laura,
I am 16 years old, a junior in high school and i run sprinting events in track&field. Ive been a runner for 5 years and i take my health and sports very seriously. Since Track ended in May of 07, Ive continued to workout 2-6 days a week. And now that im entering my second week of track for the 2008 season i will be running for 6 days of the week. Heres my problem; I want to lose weight. Im 5'8 and i realize that theres not much to lose but i weigh 135 lbs compared to last season when i weighed about 118-123. Theres got to be something i can do to get whatever fat in me... out. Im afraid being more bulky is going to effect my speed. I already eat healthy but is there some kind of cleansing diet i could do to burn fat? Maybe less carbs and more protein? My trainer suggested 3 days of eating nothing but green veggies/salads and meat/fish. Im scared to do that on top of burning tons of calories after school though, and if i did do that diet could i do it for perhaps a week? I want to do everything i can to be the best athlete possible. Im willing to do whatever it takes. I apologize for the HUGE message,
thank you for your time!

AnswerDear Bree, If you do any kind of cleansing diet, or fasting, you will lose your hard earned muscle. Muscle is heavy, so your extra weight might be muscle weight or if you grew one inch since last year, one inch equals that extra 5-7 pounds you are carrying. Your trainer has a good idea with the healthy lower carb diet of vegetables and meat/fish, add a fruit and some low fat dairy. Any weight lost that week should be fat, not your hard earned muscle. Keep accurate food journals, so you will know what works for you. Hope that helps, Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
