Hi, I am 48yrs old and 5'4" 103lbs. I was a professional dancer, and now I do
optimum workout kinetics. I have recently changed my eating habits for
overeating (depression) to a healthy vegan diet in which I eat a healthy
breakfast (oatmeal soymilk) nuts at snack time, second snack yogurt, lunch: tofu
or salads with vegetables, dinner vegie burgers w/spinach on whole wheat bread,
and fruit at night before bed. What am I doing wrong? why is everyone saying im
too skinny? I take supplements too and feel the best I ever did. I also gave up
sugar, white flour and eat 3 times a week salmon.
AnswerHi Nina,
According to your BMI you are very slightly underweight. Your BMI is 17.72, underweight is anything under 18.5. BMI can be very subjective (depends on many variables such as build, activity levels, muscle mass...), a more objective measure is body composition which also accounts for body fat%, water weight, and lean mass%. If you know of a health club which offers this service I recommend that you check it out.
Please do not misunderstand me, I am not saying you are not healthy or that you need to do anything differently, just giving you info. If you feel great, and you are healthy than I would keep doing what you are doing. Just continue to be aware of your health, adjust when necessary and you will be fine.
Nutritionally it looks like you are doing the right thing.
Thank you for your question,
