About Vitamins

Question
Hi Dan,

Hope you have a great day.
I'm 36/Male, generally healthy except for sinus and had depression in the past.
 I take 4 vitamins : one multi-vitamin, Vitamin B (each vitamin B complex is about 300% RDA value) , Vitamin C - 500 mg and Co-enzyme Q-10.
Is this too much? Should I cut down? Is this too much for my kidneys to process? If I don't take Vitamin B or multi-vitamin, I feel tired for the whole day. Thanks.
I hope this question is within your expertise.

Hoping for a favourable reply.
God bless.

Wes

Answer
Hi Wes,

Great question.

B-vitamins should be taken in smaller doses 2 or 3 times daily for the best results. You should be able to find a lower dose B-complex, maybe 25 mg. Your body requires small amounts of B vitamins at a time. You may notice that urine is brighter and may have an odd oder after taking your vitamin- this is some of the B's you did not need.

300% of the DV should not pose any problems.

Secondly, vitamins are not pep pills. They do not have any caloric value and therefor can not give you more energy. B-vitamins are strongly involved in metabolism and nutrient breakdown/absorption and thus contribute to energy production. Food gives energy if you are eating the right choices as well as exercise.

In short, change the dosage and times for the B-vitamins. The C and CoQ10 are great. Make sure your diet is good and stay active.

Thank you,

Dan Haley, CNC
