QuestionDan
Since I cut out the dairy I feel much better and am starting to lose weight.
I switched to soy milk but I am getting mixed messages.
Some research says its bad for men as it increases estrogen, and some say its good or neutral, some say it causes man boobs, some say it will decrease belly fat and man boobs?! What gives?
AnswerHi Barry,
Yes, there is a lot of conflicting research on soy as with many other nutrition topics. Use whole soy, try to avoid products containing isolated soy proteins. With many foods it is often beneficial to use it whole. Soy milk (Silk brand is great), tofu, tempeh, soy (edemame) beans.
I use soy products and have for MANY years, no man boobs so far... I believe the key is to eat a wide variety of healthy foods; this helps us to avoid overdoing it, keeps food interesting, and expands the range of nutrients we receive. Try alternating between soy, rice, soy/rice blends, almond and other nut milks. There are definite health benefits from using soy and the others all have there benefits as well.
Cutting dairy is a great decision! Make sure you increase leafy greens, use collards, kale; also broccoli, dates, figs, black strap molasses, oranges, almonds, and sea veggies. These are all excellent sources of calcium!
Thank you,
