Cant reduce belly

Question
Richard
I will turn 50 next month.I am 5'8" 230 pounds-short and stocky but fairly muscular.
I took up soccer two years ago. I take pride in the fact most of my team mates are younger than me,as guys tend to drop out in their late forties (in my area). There are a few old war horses in their late fifties early sixties, and since I have no health issues such as arthritis, I would like to keep this up for a few more years.
I quickly learned that running/jogging is the best training for soccer,so I bought a treadmill so I could run in the winter.I have been trying hard this winter to get in shape for the summer, but the inches around my belly arent budging.I realise at my age I cant expect a flat belly, but I would like to lose a couple inches anyway.
Here is my current regimen:
AM: 30 minute treadmill jog before work (too cold, dark, icy to jog outside in the winter here)
PM: one set of basic weights-squats,deadlifts,bench press.I watch what I eat and average 1500-2000 calories a day or less.I dont drink alcohol.
Should I switch to a low carb diet?  Also, what about another cardio session in the evening,or is that overdoing it? I take a multi vitamin, should I try an athletic supplement?
Thanks for any advice.

Answer
Carl, congrats on remaining active. I'm 35 myself and I try to stay as active as possible in the winter (summer is no problem). I live in Buffalo NY, so the winters are cold, dark, and nasty here too. I play a lot of indoor softball.

Belly fat is the last fat to go for men. It's very hard to get rid of all of it... and you won't see it go down much until ALL of the other fat is off your body (butt, legs, etc.)

Just be patient - it sounds like you know what you're doing as far as exercise goes. You could TRY a low-carb diet, but I've found it's hard to get enough energy to play sports or workout when you're restricting carbs. I try to keep carbs to the MORNINGS or before a workout. When I know I'm DONE being active for the day, I stop eating carbs (no pasta for supper, but toast with breakfast is perfectly fine).
