QuestionI recently had an argument with a friend that claims there is no nutritional value in black olives. She also claims they are higher in sodium than green. To me, the green olives are saltier tasting and I prefer the black. I say it is a difference in opinion and all foods that come from the earth have some nutrional value. Can you answer which olive is better and give some insight into the nutritional value of black olives.
Thank you, Lorrie
AnswerI'm not an olive expert, but I love both types. You could probably solve this debate with a Google search or a trip to Wikipedia.
I *think* the only major difference between the two is ripeness (how ripe they are when they're packaged). Green olives are obviously less ripe than black.
As far as their nutritional differences, I don't know... but I know that both are considered "healthy" for you.
