QuestionQUESTION: Susan
I am 49,no health issues except for a big belly.I am 5'8" 235 pounds but am fairly muscular.
In fact my belly is very firm and I can even discern the abdominal muscles-it just sticks way out.
Do you know if this could be related to a medical condition? I get complete physicals every year as a condition of my employment but nothing comes up eg. thyroid.
Could it be hormonal or possibly a food allergy? I have tried low carb, low meat,no dairy, but it keeps expanding.
For the last few months I have been walking an hour a day to and from work, and I do a set of crunches.
One thin that makes me suspect it might be a food allergy is this: I am a light drinker, but every couple of months may consume a few too many pops.My belly really expands on the days after, even if I didnt eat much.
Thanks.
ANSWER: Hi Carl Jr.,
Out with ALL refined sugar and refined flour.
Eat QUALITY carbs - whole grains, fresh produce, eat a small amount of meat, but never mix carbs with protein. As in a steak and a salad, OR a salad and a baked potato, not all 3 within 4 hours.

QUESTION: Susan
Your reply got me thinking.
When I am overindulging in beer,I usually will have some potato chips.
Also,Though I do try to limit my carbs,I often will have a baked potato with supper.
Could I be sensitive to potatoes?
AnswerYou are missing the bigger picture. Protein is digested by acids. Carbs by alkalis. When you mix the two, you make a bunch of chemicals that fight each other more than digest your food. Let them take turns and spend a lot less energy/time battling.
You are eating empty foods that leave you hungry. When you get what you need, you don't overeat.
Also, around 50 the metabolism drops.
