Questioni know that everyone is built differently and carry weight at different areas of the body.
i am at 116lbs and stand at 5'5 yet have a 28-inch waistline.
i just want to know what the normal range of waistline is for a person of my specifics?
and whether or not my waistline is healthy or not?
ps. i just came from a forum and read that a 5'5 woman (which is also my height) who weighs 125lbs has a 26-inch waistline.
so yes, i'm very much concerned.
(but i am also beginning a new healthier diet and am beginning to exercise on a daily basis.)
AnswerDear Henri,
The abdominal fat distribution characteristic for the 'apple' body type is indeed a risk factor for the cluster of diseases called 'metabolic syndrome' because this fat is especially pron to produce many harmful substances and inflammatory reactions.
However, your number is within a normal range, which is 40" for men and 35" for women, independently of body weight and height. Antintuitive as it seems, it's backed up with statistical data (see links below).
There are other warning signs you might want to learn about as well as new insights into dieting and exercising types beneficial for metabolic syndrome.
