QuestionNevil
I have started a new job as a transit bus driver.
I have been told some of the hazards are back problems and obesity. The former from sitting for long stretches and bouncing, the latter from eating junk food at irregular times and lack of exercise.
I am already overweight but am stable as I watch what I eat and run on my treadmill several times a week.
I plan to continue running and add some situps for my back.I am also going to watch the donuts and burgers, maybe take a luch or just eat at home?
Any thing else you can suggest is appreciated!
AnswerHi Bud,
Congratulations on your new job!
Yes- I agree with what you've been told, although it will only happen if YOU want it to. Never forget that we are in total control of our health.
I don't want to comment too much about the seating, suffice to say that doing back STRENGTHENING exercises is more important. It is your lower back and stabiliser muscles that will suffer. Exercises such as back curles and holding a plank position are very good.
As for your food- you are not exerting much energy sitting down, so you need to be way more focused than what you suggest.
Have donuts etc only as an occasional treat. Each day should consist of plenty of plain water, fresh veg/fruit, lean meat/chicken/fish. You should also supplement with vitamins and omega3 fish oils.
If this will become too complicated and time consuming then you can opt for the nutrition shake programmes like I promote from my site. The shakes are a perfect blend of everything your body needs in a very quick and easy to use way- no cooking or measuring etc. Being totally portable, you can keep them with you in the bus.
In the end, and whatever you choose, consistency will win the day!
All the best
