QuestionCan you freeze fresh spinach and if you do, will it loose nutrients? We bought a big bag, but it's going bad faster than we can eat it. If it can't be frozen (without cooking or without losing nutrients), what is the best way to store it for longest shelf life.
AnswerHello Lynn!
Yes you can cook the spinach first and then pack and seal and freeze it. This will retain the nutrients but then you have limp cooked spinach when you un freeze it....you can actually freeze fresh spinach and herbs and things by putting them in water and freezing them in the water....for spinach I would put it in a plastic container and fill with water put a lid on it and you can freese that as is....for herbs or other things a trick to use is ice cube trays...put fresh herbs in different spots make sure you remember what they are fill the tray with water and freeze...remove the ice and put them in different bags according to herb and keep them in the freezer this way when you need a table spoon or half cup or wahtever of a certain herb you just thaw the ice in a strainer under cold water and the herbs will but just as good as if htey were fresh....the same will apply for your spinach....another good tip is to freeze certain measurements so when you need an amount you konw how much to thaw out and you wont have to refreeze any leftovers.
