QuestionI have a one month old preemie daughter at lbs and 14 oz. I feed her about every three hours and she eats between 40 ccs and 100 ccs it always changes. Is that okay? Also lately she hasn't really had a stool maybe once a day. Ive been feeding her preemie formula and breast milk in a bottle. Am i doing everything right??
AnswerHI Elena
I'm not sure what happened to my answer because I see it somehow didn't register. Sorry about that. Elena, children's feeding is definitely an area that holds many anxieties especially if our babay is prem. I'm a psychologist so not really an expert in the area of children's eating but I've read sufficient to say that the amount children eat is very erratic which often rattles mums, especially when we can see how much it varies because we're bottle feeding. So I'd worry less about her erratic amounts unless she's obviously always hungry and crying. Uusally though prem babies do tend pick up weight quite quickly. What would concern me a lot though is that she's having so few stools. I'd definitely either phone the hospital where she was born to talk to either the doctor or nurses involved with her birth, or take her to your medical professional to have that checked out.
If you get a chance, please rate my answer so that I know whether it was at all helpful to you or not.
Thanks Cari
