QuestionHello Jen,Are Artificial Sweeteners-AI's-harmful? All AI's or just some?? I consume a great deal:about 3-4 heaped tablespoons on my cereal and 8-10 AI's in tablet form in teas and coffees which I consume 5-6 mugs a day.The ones I use at the moment are:Tablet form-Cyclamate based and Granulated form-Maltodextrin (Aspartame)and contains a source of phenylalanine.I don't know what any of these mean.I go to a famous weight loss meeting and in the eating plans we are allowed AI's and it doesn't matter how much-its optional but within the plans quota but I am worried that I am consuming TOO much. Are there any health problems which can occur from taking AI's?? Thanks,Caroline.
AnswerHi Carolyn,
I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with Al's. I am conservative when it comes to artificial sweeteners, so my advice would be to limit to 2 servings a day. I think it's best to choose foods that are naturally sweet (fruit) to satisfy your sweet tooth. Allowing your taste buds to adjust to foods that aren't so sweet is a good step.
