QuestionDear George,
About how many mg. of flavonoids are in each tablespoon of plain, ordinary, non Dutch cocoa powder in the grocery store?
I understand that nutritional content would vary from batch to batch. I only want some very rough idea of the content.
Many studies discuss the health benefits per mg. And, study reports do not measure it in tablespoons, either.
So, could you please give me some idea of the flavonoid mg. per tablespoon?
Thanks so much, Kathy
AnswerHello Kathy!
Thank you for your nutrition question. Cocoa powder is rich in polyphenols, such as catechins and procyanidins excellent for heart health. Therefore, each tablespoon of non-dutch cocoa powder naturally contains around 36 mg of cocoa flavanols (polyphenols). If you purchase organic cocoa powder from your local health food store the amount could be slightly higher.
