QuestionHi I am a 27 year old active female who exercises 7 days a week for about 60-75 minutes (I am 4'10" tall and weigh 103 pounds). Can you tell me what is my minimum calorie intake and why do I need to consume the minimum amount? What are the side effects of consuming less that that recommended? Thanks
AnswerAkanksha-
The side effects. To many to list, every thing from just low energy to death and starvation. Bad skin, hair, los of energy, hormonal upset or even the stopping /halting of them, digestion problems, cognitive problems, wrecked metabolism etc etc. From an athletic point of view very lack luster performance, longer recovery times, greater risk of injury, weak bones, low amounts of lean mass.
its not good or healthy at all to consume below maint. for long periods.
Noe the minimum is much harder, there are literally tons of equations that give a guess but hats all they are. They give you a base line to start from and you have to adjust for the individual client/athlete from there. I would say for you, given your current weight and activity level I would have you start at 1800-1900 calories if you were my client and we would adjust from there, most likely up much higher but we would do it progressively.
