QuestionMy 3yo daughter has never been a good sleeper. She has only slept through the night on a few occasions and after a process of elimination I have discovered it is after an evening meal of fish. What vitamins / minerals are in fish that help her sleep? Why does she sleep soundly after eating fish?
AnswerHello Kate!
Thank you for your nutrition question. Fish contain Omega 3 fatty acids which supply EPA and DHA. EPA is known to be important for brain function. EPA helps improve one's quality of sleep by promoting certain sleep-promoting chemicals. EPA helps increase the mood that regulates neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin (which is directly involved in sleep regulation and depression) by forty percent (40%). Hope this helps!
