QuestionHi Lela,
I'm 32, 5'3 and 190 lbs. My BMI is 33 and I'm overweight. Recently I started a lifestyle change that includes a 1200-1400 caloric daily intake and workouts 3x a week (currently doing 30 min pilates and 30 min walking). I've been doing this for about a month now and I am mentally happy and proud, but physically I don't feel as good as I should. I understand that the mind has a lot to do with our ability to lose weight. I do not have any health issues, other than the extra weight. I am losing weight at a slow pace and I am eating right, veegies, lean proteins, whole grains, good fats etc. I try to eat every three hours.
The problem is that I feel my body is resisting me. I am not going to the bathroom as I should considering I am getting plenty of fiber and water. Lately I've been feeling weak, and even once I had cold sweats, even though I've had plenty to eat. These symptoms subside if I eat something. I honestly feel like this could be some kind of self sabotage. I know I am eating plenty of food, in fact I very seldom go below 1300 cals. My workouts are not really that intense for my body to need more cals. I am taking a multivitamin and basically I know my body is not lacking anything, so why is it acting this way? Why do I lack energy, when I should be full of it. I sleep about 8 hours a day, and yet I am constantly yawning and exhausted.
How can I determine if it is in fact self sabotage?

AnswerYou might be having a blood sugar issue. Your best bet is to go to the doctor and have it checked out. Hypoglycemia can cause those symptoms, and that would be a simple issue of trying to better balance your carbohydrates and not a deep seated issue.
Hope that helps,
Lela Simon
