QuestionI had a baby 4 months ago and a month and a half ago I
began my weight loss routine. It includes, a high lean
protein and fiber 1000 calories a day diet, lots of water,
and an exercise routine of 1 hr aerobic exercise on
eliptical exercise where i burn 500 calories and then an
additional 30 min. of arms and abs or legs and abs every
day for a month without a day off, Yet I have only lost 8
lbs and i am stuck. What is wrong?
AnswerToo much, too soon, too hard.
1000 calories a day is less than your natural Basal Metabolic Rate- add to that burning off a ton of calories with exercise and logic says you should lose weight. Your body doesn't work on logic though, it is hard wired for survival- In the most primitive parts of the brain you have sent a signal that you have just had a baby, and now there is no food available and you are starving. Not only that, you are running and burning a lot of calories, so you must be in danger too. The bodies natural response is to shut down your metabolism completely, and burn as few calories as possible to keep you alive.
You need to add an extra 100 calories to your diet every week for the next 5 weeks. You need to take at least 2 days off of exercise every week and keep your workouts to 1 hour. I would actually suggest getting a trainer.
This will be a rough road, but luckily you are asking for this advice early so you haven't messed up your metabolism too much. I know you want to be back to your old body ASAP, but you have to be patient with yourself and not do it in such a drastic manner.
Hope this Helps,
