Hi,
Last summer and fall I went through a bulk to gain muscle and everything went well as I gained around 38lbs. Throughout winter I worked on cutting and now I have lost around 27lbs in 3 months. I went from eating around 4000 calories a day during my bulk and during cutting I ate around 2000 calories per day. However, I noticed that although the rest of my body, including by upper abs, is fairly cut are more defined than they ever were and my waist is smaller than it has been in very a long time, my lower abs seem to carry disproportionate amount of fat and it bulges out slightly. This came as a complete surprise to me as I have never had this problem before and didn't think locations where a person's fat is stored could be altered like this.
I'm only 25yrs old and my body fat increased by only about 5% more than before so I wouldn't think that my skin was somehow stretched. However, is it possible that during bulking and/or cutting my body has changed to carry more fat specifically on lower abs than before? How could or might this have happened and what can I do about it?
Currently I'm continuing with my cutting in hopes that further decreasing my body fat will eventually shrink my lower stomach. I'm wondering if this is the correct way to go about it or if only time can help my lower stomach problem. I'm also wondering if this may be permanent. Thank you.
AnswerI get asked this question all the time. The bottom line is: you can't spot reduce belly fat. Just like you can't drain the deep end of a pool first, you can't reduce belly fat until all of the rest of the fat is off your body.
