QuestionI have a sister inlaw who is extremely underwieght. She has just been to a dietition and they told her she was eating fine and just needed to drink a cup of cocoa a day.i found that a little absurd.she about 5/7 and under 100 pounds.she eats regularly and is an active person.she quit smoking some time ago and we all thought she would put on some weight but she has not.she 32 and desperatly wants to gain weight.the whole family has a very high metabolism and are slim so she is naturaly in some way always going to be thin but not as thin as she is, i was wondering if you could advise any kind of diet plan and exersice plan for her since her nutritionist seems to think some cocoa will do the trick.Thank you for your time in this matter.

AnswerMarie,
I had the same problem and what worked for me was weight lifting- Challenging, relatively heavy weights put muscle on my frame which led me to eat more, which helped me gain weight.
Don't worry about her getting "bulky" Her naturally thin body type won't allow that kind of bulking- she will probably end up with more curves than before! She might want to try going to see a personal trainer, for a little while at least, to get a handle on what she should be doing.
As far as food goes, if she is lifting heavy she will eat- just make sure she gets enough protein. I also found that I had a sugar problem- I ate lots of sugar and it kept me from being hungry- cutting down on sugar actually helped me gain weight.
Hope this helps,
