QuestionHi. My name is Jenna and I am 19 and a college student. I am 5'10" and weight 275lbs. I am heavy, yes. I have a lot of muscle on me too. My problem is, I can not seem to lose weight. My diet isn't that great, because I do not have a lot to choose from, being at school and all. I try to get in some exercises, by walking to my classes, and walking with my friends every other day. I take vitamins, and try to keep away from sugary stuff. DO you have any advice for me, to try to lose weight? What more can I do, since what I am doing seems to not be working. Thanks
AnswerDear Jenna,
Well, you admit your diet isn't that great... so what can you do to change it? There are plenty of people around you who aren't overweight so what are they eating? Being at school you probably have access to a cafeteria, where they have healthy meals instead of pizza and burgers, right?
When I was in college I made sure to have an entree with a starch and a vegetable every night. Concentrate on getting in what is good for you and not just avoiding what you know is bad for you.
I would also suggest keeping a food diary. Write down everything you eat and drink for a few weeks and see where the problem is... do you eat candy bars and soda in the afternoons? Snack at night? Have a dessert after every meal? Sometimes we aren't really aware of what we are eating since it has become such a habit.
A great source of information to build a healthy diet is www.mypyramid.gov. You can also go to my website for loads of free articles that help people lose weight, changing one habit at a time!
Keep up the walking--that's great!
It would be great if you establish healthy lifestyle habits now and don't have to worry about your weight for the rest of your life!
