How to lose 1.5 to 2 lbs a week?

Hello,
I have struggled with being chubby all my life, from the earliest age, I can remember thinking how I look different from all my other friends.
I have decided it is time to stop feeling sorry for myself and do something about it. I have been asked to me maid of honour at my cousins wedding  and am determined to lose the weight by then and look fabulous! I am 5'5" and weight 160 lbs. I'd like to weigh 125 - 130 lbs by September 5th, 2009 (it is now April 9th, 2009) Is this a realistic goal?  and how can I achieve this life changing goal!?

Hi Christina,

It sounds as though you are really serious and have a great goal. These are essential to your success.

Your target is achievable but you will need to work at it to ensure you look and feel your best for the wedding.

There are 3 areas to look at:

nutrition
exercise
emotions

Nutrition- you should be having 6 small meals a day. This allows you to control portion size and keep your body energised, to burn fat. Each meal should have lean protein included. Including fresh veg every day, and using fruit only as a snack. Drinking 8 glasses of water through the day will allow your body to better absorb the nutrients.
Make sure you don't fry often, and avoid dressings and sauces. Use a light sprinkling of olive oil and add some herbs and spices instead.

Exercise- start a resistance training programme using weights. this will accelerate your metabolism to burn more fat while toning your muscles. remember to push yourself at every session so you keep increasing weights or reps.

Emotions- you must accept and enjoy how you are now while looking to the future. beating yourself up and avoiding looking at yourself without positive emotions will be a real pull down in your efforts.
