QuestionHi there,
I've just started the off season from college hockey a few weeks ago. I currently weigh 175 lbs and am at a fairly high level of fitness. Recently I've purchased a 100 Whey protein blend which contains 1100 Calories per serving, and I'm concerned with overdoing my calorie intake and become overweight. What is the optimal calorie, protein and carbohydrate intake I should be consuming on a daily basis to stay in top shape, but gain healthy muscle instead?
Thanks for your help,

NO one can tell you that exactly there are to many individual factors at play I would have to spend a great deal of time with you. I have gained on low carb, high carb, moderate carb etc. you have to find what workes best for you.
#1 I would get your protein in and then go from there eat 1 gram oer lb of body weight. Then pack in the other foods. I GUARANTEE!!!! if your eating big and training HARD you wont get over fat,. Yes youll add some body fat but your an athlete and super lean 90% of the time doesnt equate to speed and strength and performance. The more you eat and rest the harder you can train and progress. But you must eat for it and rest as well.
So if you want o make serious gains your going to have to accept some fat dont worry it comes off easy its a LOT easier to get lean and lose fat then it is to gain muscle. Gaining muscle takes years of hard work and eating losing fat takes weeks. Most recently I worked 2 years to get my deadlift from 640 to 700lbs and body weight to 275. In one month not trying to hard I lost 28 lbs of fat.
I would up the intake and work your but off, get good quality food and rest. If yiou need a number I would start off by aiming to eat 3500-4000 calories a day and see what happens after a month. Give it a month without changing it EVERY DAY eating that amount or more EVERYDAY. The see what has happened if you gained to much back off a few hundred cals if you need more add a few hundred cals.
