QuestionHello Nevil,
My name is Mike, i am a 17 year old male. I've never been skinny but never obese, always rather svelte, if you will. I consider myself a rather active person, i always have a lot of energy. I've never had any severe fluctuations in my weight until this past school year. I've played sports since i was around 10 years old and i love to be outside and moving around. this past summer i was around 5'9 215 lbs. and i wasn't extremely happy with how i looked but i wasn't too upset about it either. i played football in the fall and went up to 220 lbs, which usually happens b/c of the gain of muscle in my legs from running daily. When football ended, I started indoor track, which included very intense running workouts everyday along with weight lifting. Now i haven't changed my diet, ever. i eat all the same things. And now I'm playing baseball which isn't as active but still a workout at times. but heres my issue, from the beginning of indoor track to now i have packed on 20 pounds, weighing in at 240. i believe that much of this is fat, i now have stretch marks on my stomach, sides, arms, and shoulders. seeing that i haven't changed my diet, and i actually picked up a sport from last year, i was wondering why i have packed on so much weight so fast. and i was wondering if you could give me some advice on how to lose it.
AnswerHi Mike,
It could be that if your previous way of eating was not that great, it has now caught up with you.
Alternatively, if you have always been cooking without frying or sauces, and choosing natural fresh products, including lean protein and fresh veg, then it could be that you are actually not eating ENOUGH of the right foods- especially protein.
As your body muscle mass increases you should consume more protein, as this feeds the muscle and increases your metabolism. This intern allows your body to burn the fat for energy usage.
You are at the age where everything is changing inside, so just be patient, and as long as you eat and drink very healthily while exercising, you are doing your best.
Hope this helps.
