Question1 ) How do you think american culture affects our current problems with obesity?2) Is the fast food industry at blame for our current obesity problems?3) How do you think we can change our lifestyle to stop the obesity epidemic?4) How can we offer a solution to childhood obesity, what would be the most effective method?
AnswerI think the problem with obesity stems from a lack of activity and a change in food choices over the years. The fast food industry is not to blame, nor are the candy, snack chip, or snack cracker industry. Food choices are food choices. Education is the key. Foods that are easily stored as fat should be avoided and an increase in daily exercise should be encouraged. Foods that are easily stored as fat are those high glycemic index carbs like bagels, potatoes, cookies, crackers, white bread, white rice. Add some foods with fat and sugar to the mix and you have a recipe for fat storage. The key to a normal weight is to eat smaller meals that can burned for energy and not stored as fat. Lean meat, vegetable, fruit, poultry, whole grain and healthy fats are examples of a healthy diet. Hope that helps, Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
