QuestionHi,
I have high blood pressure with increased heart rate. After spending alot of time having my blood pressure under control, I found out that Magnesium supplements lowers my heart rate and I like that.
Recently I got a product that contains
Magnesium (Elemental) 300 Milligrams 75%
From:
Magnesium Oxide 298 Milligrams
Magnesium Amino Acid Chelate 285 Milligrams
Magnesium Malate 283 Milligrams
Magnesium Taurinate 288 Milligrams
I also take a multi-vitamin that gives me more 30mg Magnesium Citrate.
I don't supplement Calcium nor I supplement Potassium.
Am I at any risk?
Thanks for help,
Mike
AnswerMichael,
There are three points that you might want to consider.
1. Watch for magnesium dose you take. Magnesium doses above 380 mg as magnesium has been known to cause hypermagnesemia, nausea, muscle and joint pains, dry skin, low stomach acid, low blood pressure, depression, fatigue, and diarrhea.
2. Make sure you have enough calcium for your magnesium intake. Magnesium may cause an alteration in calcium requirements so recommended ratios of calcium: magnesium are 2:1 or 1:1
3. For potassium magnesium deficit is harmful, not high doses. Magnesium is necessary for the function of the cellular potassium pump. If a magnesium deficiency occurs, then pumping potassium into the cell may be impaired.
Hope it helps,
