QuestionHi, i am 45 years old, weight 158 lbs, height 65". I don't feel good. I need to loose weight and be healthy. I have no drive and am peri or pre menopause.
In march, i had my cholesterol checked and I have high ldl and cholesterol low hdl (lack of exercise).
For 3 yrs now I have been working long hours with little or no time to workout. Stressed, depressed (mom died after 1 yr of illness last nov, followed by her sister and brother 3 months later they were in their 80's)
I have always been concerned about my health being epileptic since the age of 14 and on medication since. I eat healthy foods, more inclined to low sodium and low fat all my life. I eat what my body request, e.g. I can go days feeling like eating grilled fish, or a certain fruits or vegetables, or cereals and during those times cannot tolerate some other foods. i don't care much for breakfast and spent years skipping it.
My diet for the past 12 months:
morning:
5:30 cup of coffee w light non dairy cream, little or no suga
8:00 oatmeal or fruits or cereal bars.
Lunch:
salade or vegetable with grilled fish or chicken breast (lately only fish) plantain,
not a desert person lately because of a sweet craving after lunch i will have fruit or yogurt for desert.
when the craving is too strong after lunch i try to fill in with the fruit or yogurt. At times i give in.
I am rarely hungry in the evenning and if i am, i will have carrots. Or apple or nuts.
i take leviteracetam and phenobarbitol for the epilepsy
vitamins: calcium, magnesium, zinc, omega 3, folic acid, vitamin c. I also take natural herbs for circulation, heavy legs, water retention (recently).
Need advice. Why am i putting on weight or why can't lose it. Help needed

AnswerEvelyn its due to the fact you are not eating enough and have zero energy to be active, it slows your metabolism and has you storing all you can and not losing weight to survive stay alive. That and you have near zero fat intake. You MUST eat fat its health and really essential for health, there are at least three essential fatty acids meaning you MUST eat them to get them the body cant create them. Eating fat will also have the effect of lowering your bad and raising your good Cho levels. Eat fat to lose fat
You need more meats, eggs, protein in general, nuts, seeds and oils, and leave the carbohydrates mainly to green veggies and a few fruits. Eat more all in all 3 healthy meals a day based in protein fats and some veggies and a couple 2-3 snacks again of real whole foods will find you with more energy and that will burn fuel and your basic metabolic rate will raise as well.
