QuestionHi! I am 6 months pregnant and I have a 4-year-old. I recently applied for WIC and I noticed that my vouchers specify lowfat, reduced fat, or skim milk. I have always drank whole milk, I think anything else tastes watered down, but because of WIC we have made the switch to reduced fat (2%) milk. Let's face it, if you got 8 free gallons a month you'd switch too. I know this is probably better for my husband, who is trying to lose weight, but is it really good for my children? How much better is reduced and lowfat milk than whole milk?

All of those are great choices. The only thing your lacking in the low fat versions is of course some of the healthy fats in dairy. For the kids just make sure they get a bit more fat in their diet to make up for the calories, It could be a simple as a bit of butter, or peanut butter.
I regularly Drink 2% now and to keep my calories up for hard training simply am sure to get the calories in from other sources. None of the milks are worse or better then the other just better for some peoples goals and calorie intakes.
Congrats on the pregnancy.
