Timing of meals

Question
Does the timing and size of meals make a major difference in maintaining or losing weight?
What I have heard previously is that breakfast should be hearty, lunch medium and supper smaller?
I understand that eating in the evening is an issue but if meals are consumed at 7 am, noon and 6 pm with perhaps healthy snacking (fruits, raw vegetables, etc) in between, does the relative size of each matter?

Answer
Hi Doug,

Yes, there is a school of thought that you burn more energy during the day than you do in the evening, so your breakfast should be larger and your dinner smaller--but this varies greatly among individuals, and some people eat breakfasts that are much too large to ever allow for weight loss!

I would say if you are having meals spaced as you suggest, and healthy snacks in between, your diet would fall into the best category of all... "grazing"... eating when you are hungry, never being stuffed and never feeling starving (as people who skip breakfast tend to).

I presume you are either currently at a very healthy weight, or knowledgeable enough to get there very soon!
