QuestionMy 7 year old is about 20 lbs overweight. She weighs 101lbs. and is about 48in. tall. In the past month or so, we have really restructured how we eat - more fruits and veggies, whole grains, smaller portions, etc. We have also take at least 4 20 minute walks a week ( in addition to her regular school activity). Her weight is not going down. She appears to be slimming down a little, but not according to the scale. How many calories should she be having per day? What are we missing?
AnswerI'm not a doctor, and I wouldn't feel comfortable giving weight-loss advice for CHILDREN. I would recommend you take her to see a doctor or nutritionist.
It sounds like you're doing the right thing: lots of veggies, whole grains, smaller portions, etc. Get regular exercise. Kids need lots of activity. I don't know how many calories children should be eating. I only know stats for adults. I do know that kids need MORE because they're growing. My son eats twice what I do, and he's still very slim.
