Dear Laurie,

Does skipping breakfast (specially not eating breakfast within the first 45 minutes of waking up) shuts the metabolism completely down?

Hi Aziz,
No, it doesn't happen quite that fast.  But experts suggest you do have something within a few hours after you get up.
If you don't eat for several hours, your body starts to sense you have no energy coming in for a while and starts to adjust your metabolism to slow it down a bit.  It's never shut down completely, or even drastically reduced, until much time elapses.  This helps people who are practically starving to death (either from poverty, anorexia, or other reasons) last for many more months before dying from lack of energy.... although they may suffer vitamin deficiencies much sooner!
