QuestionBrief background:
1. My wife is excited about using deer meat from a hunter friend because it is lower in fat than beef and could be used to add variety to our meals of fish and chicken and veggies.
2. My cholesterol hit 260 many years ago;
My physician wanted to medicate me, I opted for diet & exercise.
My cholesterol dropped to 200 and stayed that way.
Question:
In your opinion, how many 3-ounce portions of deer meat could I safely consume per week without being concerned about increasing my cholesterol level?
Thanks.
Ron
AnswerRon-
I will answer your question like this. They are finding out more and more that your cholesterol level has less or even nothing to do with your dietary intake or cholesterol and more to do with your intake of processed carbohydrates and other junk. cereals, breads, crackers, sugar, HFCS, stuff like that. I know hand fulls of people who have switched from eating processed junk to eating lots of red meat, pork, chicken, fish, eggs, dairy, fruits and veggies Whole foods with the majority of calories coming from meats and their cholesterol dropped like a rock. Faty fish is a huge one as well, get it or take fish oils.
In short deer meat is great.
