QuestionQUESTION: Hi,
If you cook with margarine in a pan, can there be margarine residues on the pan after washing? When I wipe the pan with some paper towels, there seem to be a slight staining.
Thank you
ANSWER: Hi Ben,
Yes, there certainly can be some residue. Oils need lots of soap to break up the molecules and allow them to rinse away.
This residue may be increased with spray margarines and squeeze margarines, as well as some of the low-fat varieties of "buttery spread" because they have other products in them that are oily for texture, but not the same as real oil in the structure.
Also, when using a "non-stick" pan they advise you do not coat the pan, especially not with a cooking spray because they tell you that it does leave a residue!

QUESTION: Hi and thank you for the answer.
Do you know of any way to remove those residues?
thank you
AnswerHi Ben,
That probably depends on the pan material and on what left the coating. My non-stick pans say if you use the cooking spray it ruins the finish. I had used it, not knowing, and ended up just throwing the old ones away and getting new ones eventually.
If soap doesn't clean it away, it could just be deposited into the texture of the pan coating. It probably won't hurt anything to keep using the pans, but if it bothers you you'll probably just have to start over with new ones ;(
